D-Sisive At Rancho

If you've been in conversation with me in the last few months, I’m sure you’ve heard the name D-Sisive once or twice. A Toronto based Hip Hop artist that’s just solid, and keeps at his music.

He was part of a lineup last Thursday at Rancho Relaxo… and I took this opportunity to see D-Sisive live!!! Originally, my only goal was to attend the show... but with some time and thinking, I decided to photograph the event. So I rented the lens I've had my eye on for the past few months and had some fun! For this shoot I decided against using flash, a challenge considering I had not done it before. This was probably not the best location to try this due to the low red lighting and low ceiling... BUT, how would we grow if we never tried. The show was solid, full of laughs and some great foot tapping beats!

Anyway, I've attached a couple of pictures from the event for your perusal!

It's time for my paintings to enter the lives of others so they can do for others what they have done for me. The paintings I've created over the past few years are now available for sale!

An easy decision? No....over the years I've been very close with the images I've painted, the deep emotions in each one... often times when painting, I felt like I was chipping away to reveal the story in each canvas. Why so much feeling? Once upon a time ago I learned from an old teacher that if you don't feel what you create then the onlookers will feel very little themselves. It is as a result of this I learned to invest myself into what I do.

Evren at Dundas Square!

Hello everyone! Recently I had the chance to check out the performance of Evren and his crew at Dundas Square, what fun and what a privilege!

Haven’t heard of him? Well, I’m sure you’ve heard his music as it appears in the Toyota Matrix Ad “Do I Go”, in the opening of Degrassi and most recently having written the song “We Could Be the Same” for Turkish band maNga, who placed second in Eurovision.

At the show they had played songs from past albums combined with the song “And there I was” the single off the new album. I can say the show was good fun!

G20 - Necessary?

Here are just a couple of photos that I took at the Toronto G20 protests. You’ll notice that I’ve tagged these pictures with the word “Necessary?”… Why? Well, I can’t help but revisit that period over and over again, and think… was it all necessary? Did the G20 summit need to take place in the downtown core? Did our city need to be vandalized? Did our downtown core have to turn into a prison? Did the police have to overreact that much? Did Canadians have to pay $1 Billion in security?

As you can tell I am just full of questions… I am sure much like most of you.

T-West "Coming Home" Video

Following up on the shoot of T-West's "Coming Home" music video, below is the video!!!

“fury…” this last conscious entry in the emotion series is inspired by Rachmaninov’s Piano Concertos 2 and 4. Very intense…Rich! It takes you on an emotional rollercoaster. Leads you down many roads. The three dots after the word fury refer to what will follow the emotional pinnacle. I purposely didn’t call it “anger” as anger is an emotional build up before… the EXPLOSION! Within minutes, hours a person looks back at what they have done and is likely to feel some regret… but fury is a headspace… you are in it for a while… 5 minutes? 2 weeks? 7 years? Because it is the result of a long term build up. Now this is a Taurus perspective on it all. Fury is the result of harm inflicted on you or someone you care about, fury is the result of someone or a group who have committed an act which has wrong you or your own. It a revenge mindset with all the ups and downs that someone experiences… I will admit, this painting was challenging to paint, considering the impact is has on the viewer… To get the feeling I was going after, I had to put myself in the right headspace… as a wonderful piano teacher once said… you must feel what you create… or else, what you have created will mean nothing to the audience. It was not easy slipping into this vengeful mindset, but it was an exercise I needed to go through… sessions had to end with positive upbeat music to bring me out.

Please, when viewing this painting, only view it with the purpose of allowing you to think and understand… but always finish your sessions with positive positive positive!

Shooting T-West's "Coming Home"

Following on the success of T-West’s “T-Dot State of Mind,” the single that reached the top of the charts on Flow 93.5 FM, T-West is back with his new single “Coming Home” from the album “Maybe It’s Okay.”

It’s been just over a year since we shot the video for “T-Dot State of Mind” and we are excited to be working with West on the video for his new single “Coming Home.” A song which focuses on the joy, love and happiness derived from the words “Coming home” both for the person who says it, and those who await them at home.

While last year’s shoot had us running around in negative a lot degrees, with enough snow on the ground to build a politically correct snowperson, this year we had the luxury of shooting at Studio 207. Yes the four walls and roof was a treat, we’ve never felt so spoiled by heat. While part of the shoot did have us outside on the rooftop, it didn’t keep Sterling from wearing his camo shorts outside. Bold move. Also working with the talented makeup skills of Amanda Wynne was a bonus! A smile on her face, and a willingness to help, even if it fell out of her spectrum of makeup into the spectrum of helping around set. She rocks!!!

What really drew us to this song was the importance of family, home and the love that can be produced by it. As a result, it was very important for us to focus on the true family unit of mother, father and child, and the purity of love. To emphasize this, we worked primarily in a black and white colour pallet, allowing for focus on the message and symbolism of purity around love… and darkness resulting for poor life decisions.

Was it fun on set??? The love and laughter was bountiful… smiles, good music and good fun, most of which is thanks to our young talent. While historically we are used to our star working with us on scheduling, what we quickly discovered with our youngest star was that when it was time for a running party… then it was time for a laughing giggling running party. It did make it interesting to predict the direction of the shoot, but we managed to secure all the shots we were looking for.

Funniest part of the shoot? Trying to get 12 feet of dolly track onto the subway during a subway breakdown.

All in all, we are really excited about the newest addition to the T-West collection, and are excited to share it with you. Keep your eyes peeled for it’s release in March! And for now, click here to see some of the screen captures from the shoot.
